Tuning. Car tuning is both an industry and a hobby, in which an automobile, motor bike, scooter or moped is modified in order to improve its performance, handling and presentation and improve the owner's driving style. As most vehicles leave the factory set up for average driver expectations and average conditions, tuning has become a way to personalize the characteristics of the vehicle to the owner's preference. For example, they may be altered to provide better fuel economy, produce more power at high RPM or the ride comfort may be sacrificed to provide better handling.
Car tuning is related to auto racing, although most performance cars never compete. Rather they are built for the pleasure of owning and driving such a vehicle. Another major facet of tuning includes performance modification to the car exterior. This includes changing the aerodynamic characteristics of the vehicle via side skirts, front and rear bumpers, adding spoilers, splitters, air vents and light weight wheels.

Street Racing
Gumball 3000, Cannonball Run Europe...
Street Racing. Illegal Street racing is a form of unsanctioned and illegal motor racing which takes place on public roads. Street racing can either be spontaneous or well-planned and coordinated. Well coordinated races are planned in advance and often have people communicating via 2-way radio/citizens' band radio and using police scanners and GPS units to mark locations of local police hot spots. Street racing is reported to have originated prior to the 1930s due to alcohol prohibition in some parts of the United States. Opponents of street racing cite a lack of safety relative to sanctioned racing events, as well as legal repercussions arising from incidents, among street racing's drawbacks.

The Gumball 3000 is an annual 3,000 mile international road rally which takes place on public roads, with a different 3,000 mile route around the world each year. Founded in 1999 by Maximillion Cooper, it sees an annual entry of 120 cars, which are mostly exotic and powerful sports cars. However, more unusual entries, such as police cars and camper-vans, have been seen. The Rally is not a serious race in the traditional sense of Rally races - there are no prizes for being fastest or official timekeeping of any sort. Organizers emphasize that it is a road trip adventure and not a race.
In 2008 the rally included a unique stopover in Pyongyang, the project having been initiated by the North Korean ambassador to Britain. Permission was initially granted to drive from South Korea through the fortified border, though in the end the stopover was without the cars.
Due to its nature, the Gumball 3000 has received criticism. In a 2007 incident in Macedonia, two non-participants were killed and the remainder of the rally was subsequently cancelled. Moreover, participants have been fined, had their cars confiscated, and been jailed for excessive speeding.

Getaway in Stockholm
Getaway in Stockholm is a series of illegal street racing movies filmed using mainly car mounted cameras along with some cameramen alongside the route. The videos are all shot in the streets of Stockholm, Sweden and have developed a worldwide underground cult reputation in the street racing scene.
One film is released every year. The actual run takes place during early morning hours in late autumn when there's the least amount of traffic. The identities of the drivers and the car owners are carefully withheld. So far, ten volumes of the series have been released:
Getaway in Stockholm:1: Porsche 911 Turbo (1985)
Getaway in Stockholm 2: Toyota Supra and Ford Escort RS Cosworth (2001)
Getaway in Stockholm 3: Honda NSX (2002)
Getaway in Stockholm 4: Chevrolet Corvette and Honda NSX (2003)
Getaway in Stockholm 5: Mazda RX-7 (2004)
Getaway in Stockholm 6: Dodge Viper GTS and Porsche 911 GT3 (2005)
Getaway in Stockholm 7: BMW M3 E46 CSL (modified with the addition of a supercharger) and BMW M5 E39 (2006)
Getaway in Stockholm 8: Audi RS6 and 2004/05 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade motorcycle (2007)
Getaway in Stockholm 9: Two Porsche 911 GT3s (2008)
Getaway in Stockholm 10: Porsche 911 GT3 and Lamborghini Gallardo (2009)
The series was the main reason Stockholm was included in the video game Project Gotham Racing 2 and is mainly influenced by the legendary C'était un rendez-vous short film. A similar series of movies is the Ghost Rider series. The Ghost Rider series differs from the original by using a motorcycle rather than a car.
